Introduction

When shopping for a diamond it's a personal choice where you buy, however to know more about diamonds will help you decide which diamond suits you and your budget.

It is important to understand the grades and grading certificate exactly. Make sure the certificate included with the diamond is reputable and recognised, and most importantly the business selling you the diamond is also a reputable source.

Most emphasis has been on the Cut or the Make, since the Cut is what makes a diamond sparkle the way it should. Surprisingly many people when looking to buy a diamond don't consider the Cut grade as important as Colour and Clarity. The Cut can have the largest influence on the value of the diamond.

This example will explain how important the Cut is:
Two diamonds were for sale. One was 1.03ct D VS1 Fair Cut, non certified and the other was a 1.01 ct G SI1 Very Good Cut, certified. The 1.01 ct G SI1 sold for more money, even though the 1.03 ct diamond was much higher Colour and Clarity. When someone want's a diamond it's because of how beautiful it looks and if Cut plays the biggest role in the beauty then it's the most important.
